YOGA + PILATES CLASSES
- CHAIR YOGA Using the chair as a prop
- EASY YOGA Beginner friendly class
- YOGA-PILATES Core-strengthening moves within an easy yoga flow
- OUTDOOR MINDFUL MEDITATION Coming Spring 2020
Chair yoga is our premier class and is by far the most popular class with our students. Why? This class will adapt a wide-range of traditional mat-based poses to the chair, giving you a variety of options on how to move the arms, torso and lower body. No matter what physical ability you enter class with, there will ALWAYS be a modification that’s perfect for you, today, in your body. You will learn how to listen to your body and honor where you are, today. You will also learn how to explore the breath and how it affects the way you move. Meditation and pranayama (breathing practices) may also be explored. What are you waiting for?
Sitting around only makes you stiffer – so come on over to chair yoga and get that body moving!
Easy Yoga is mat-based class that is a bit easier than a traditional mat-based class in that we use a variety of props in order for you to feel the full effects of the practice. One thing we understand at Bella Buddha is that there are as many abilities and body types as there are hairs on your head, and a one-size-fits all model is not where it’s at. You will be given the tools and instruction to move through your practice in a safe and fun way. Our students say that Easy Yoga “ain’t so easy!” You will be invited to challenge yourself, but learn to always honor your body. A strong emphasis on balance and core strength is incorporated. And yes, as always, the chair is a wonderful prop in this class.
This mat-based class incorporates Pilates core-strengthening moves within an easy yoga flow. A significant amount of core-strengthening work will be done, along with moves to strengthen the posterior-chain (the back, glutes, hamstrings). Balance and flexibility are also explored on a more challenging level. The use of props and…you guessed it – the chair – are also used from time to time.
OUTDOOR MINDFUL MEDITATION
This class comes from our great need to reconnect with nature. With our insulated homes, thick-soled shoes, concrete sidewalks, and incubator office cubicles and shopping malls, we have lost what it feels like to be a part of nature. This “domestication” has brought us comforts, but not a sense of accomplishment, gratitude, or humility. In a sense, we have become “ecologically bored.” Explore a variety of mindful meditations including walking meditation, Tonglen (the practice of taking in and letting go), Metta, and art-inspired journal writing. Find your “sit spot,” and let the conversation begin.
STRENGTH + STRETCH
This senior-friendly strength-training class uses stability balls, chairs, and resistance bands.
Why strength-training for seniors? Research shows that resistance training can help older people in daily activities, such as climbing stairs, getting in and out of a car, and fixing dinner. Strength-training is particularly useful for seniors because people generally lose muscle strength as they age. Resistance bands offer more variety because you can create resistance in all directions. Also, since there are different tension levels based on the color band you use, you can easily alter the difficulty level. Use a higher tension band for an easier exercise like bicep curls, or a lower tension band for more difficult exercises like overhead shoulder press. Incorporating the use of the stability ball adds yet another challenge to our core strength which is fundamental to good health and well-being.
